1.5 hours: Introduction to Reading Aloud

1. Reading picture books: Lead your child to read picture book stories, nurture them to pronounce words correctly, learn to match words correctly, and read complete sentences fluently and emotionally.

2. Charades: According to the picture book’s content, your child will act out the situation, drawing their interest in reading and creating a fun learning environment. They will be encouraged to speak and cultivate the ability to express themselves.

K1 Course Synopsis

1.5 hours: Recognising and Writing Chinese Characters

1. Classroom introduction: Introduce classroom content through games, children’s songs and short stories to stimulate their interest in literacy.

2. Understanding Chinese characters and components: Explain the Chinese Characters learnt through pictures, performances etc. Combining various literacy games to allow them to learn while playing, so they can have fun, learn words quickly and remember them firmly.

3. Learning Chinese words: Practise basic stroke order, develop good sitting posture and grip, and cultivate good writing habits in your child.

4. Learning children’s songs: Create a situation to stimulate interest, repeated use of the words learned, and development of the children's ability to use the accumulated words for initial reading.

1.5 hours: Reading Literacy (Semester 2)

1. Reading unit: Learn to read and understand text, classical poems, children’s songs, create situational performances, and recite texts correctly with the pinyin learned.

2. Literacy unit: Characters learned are explained through pictures and performances. A variety of character learning games are used to help your child discover the patterns of Chinese characters, recognise 280 Chinese characters, write 100 of them and recognise common character components.

3. Writing unit: Practise basic strokes, develop correct sitting and grip postures so to cultivate good writing habits in your child.

1.5 hours: Introduction to Reading Aloud

1. Picture book reading and explanation: Your child will be guided in reading and understanding picture books stories. They will read longer sentences accurately, make words coherent, pronounce words accurately, learn to pause, and read with emotion.

2. Charades: Your child will act the situations out based on the picture book’s story to rouse their interest in learning and create a pleasant speaking environment. This builds up their ability and desire to speak, and cultivates their expressive ability, which lays a strong foundation for reading and writing.

K2 Course Synopsis

(January-May and July-November)

Lesson Duration: 1.5 or 3 hours

(Material for Semester 1 and 2 are different, but both of them include Reading Aloud)

1.5 hours: Pinyin (Semester 1)

1. Learning to pronounce different Chinese words: Using children’s songs, rhymes, games and performances to teach your child the 23 character initials, 24 vowels, and 16 full syllables. They will learn to spell accurately and read the 4 tones and neutral sounds.

2. Writing Pinyin: Memorise and write initial consonant and final vowel table in a standardised manner and recognise the syllable table as a whole.

3. Reinforcing Pinyin: Create a holistic environment for pinyin learning, while teaching, integrating learning pinyin with games, activities, children’s songs, and speaking together, and utilising them flexibly.
